Paul Knowles Biography 

Paul Knowles was born in Hamilton, Ontario in 1945. In public school he developed an early interest in art and won numerous awards for drawing, painting, set design and festival publications. In senior public school he studied drawing and painting with Eleanor F. Clinton, a renowned Hamilton art teacher and painter. He also studied drawing and painting with Jean Wishart and Jose Collega.

In 1968, Paul was hired by McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences to establish the Medical Illustration and Design Department. He directed a team of artists, photographers and video technicians who produced anatomical illustrations. While employed at McMaster University, he served on numerous national and international committees for the advancement of medical education.

One of the highlights of his career was winning a Canadian Productivity Gold Medal for co-developing the McMaster/Mohawk College digital print-on-demand custom courseware program.

During his employment at McMaster University he continued to paint on a limited basis and exhibited at the Beckett Gallery and Westdale Gallery in Hamilton and at the McMaster Faculty Club.
After 36 years of service he retired in 2002 from his career as Director of Media Production Services, McMaster University.

Currently he occupies his time painting in his studio in Ancaster, Ontario and travelling.
